DEMON BITCH - Hellfriends LP (Preorder)
NB! Preorder item, release January 10.
Every fan of old school metal is probably well aware of the current American scene. Bands such as Sumerlands, Power Trip, and loads more are prevailing in the underground scene and quickly arising above it. Demon Bitch on the other hand seem to not have stirred shit up too much, yet. They sound as underground as they come. Their sound, compared to a band such as Sumerlands, shares noticeable aesthetics with true metal acts such as Heavy Load, Manilla Road or early Fates Warning. There's no doubt where these guys are coming from. All the essential ingredients for a genuine old school metal record are here: the standard E-tuning, speed, loose drums, classical scales - you name it. It's like being back in 1985.
While the music on Hellfriends is most excellent, I must say it's the production that really takes the cake. One thing that modern trad heavy metal bands often lack is a good production. Demon Bitch are the total opposite here - having a rather raw and primitive production style which sounds just as convincing as any release from the mid-80's. Even the mastering is for once done the right way - by keeping the music's dynamics and letting it breathe properly. Everything just sounds great.
Demon Bitch is an overall amazing band to come out of the modern American scene and they bring a traditional heavy/speed metal assault with an absolute force. They have a great musicianship, showing of great skills while also keeping their sound loose and alive.
